LCCC’s Stocker Arts Center Presents Lucky Chops

Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center presents Lucky Chops at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 in the Hoke Theatre.

Redefining what it means to be a brass band, Lucky Chops stormed onto the scene in 2015. With roots in New York’s LaGuardia Arts High School, the band started out performing on the streets of New York and in small venues around the city. With a mission to capture the energy of a rock band with the dance-ability of an EDM DJ (electronic dance music DJ), the group took their act to the New York City subway system where they grew a legion of followers.

It was one tourist from South America who posted a cell phone video of the band in March of 2015 that changed everything. Within days, millions of people had viewed the video. Lucky Chops found themselves on a European tour which included shows in Denmark and France, further expanding their global fan base. Upon returning to New York, Lucky Chops went back into the subway and began performing at clubs. Now with a large fan base and over 40 million views on their videos, Lucky Chops is setting out to show the world the pure magic that happens every time they play together.

Stocker Arts Center offers dinner prior to the Performing Artists Series shows. Dinner for Lucky Chops will be held in the Norton Culinary Arts Center next to Stocker Arts Center and seatings are at 5:45 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. Tickets for dinner are $30 per person and must be purchased at least a week prior to the event. Valet parking is also available for this show for $5 per car and can be purchased either in advance or can be paid in cash to the valets the night of the performance.

The Performing Artist Series single tickets are $40 for orchestra and $33 for mezzanine seats. Tickets are $10 for active duty military members, as well as youth 18 and under and students with valid IDs. Subscriptions are still on sale for Pick 3 or Pick all 4 of the remaining 2018-2019 Performing Artists Series shows. To learn more about subscription prices or to get more information about the season, visit StockerArtsCenter.com or call the box office at (440) 366-4040. The Stocker Box Office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and 90 minutes before curtain time the night of the performance.

Stocker Arts Center is located on the campus of Lorain County Community College at 1005 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio. Follow Stocker Arts Center on Facebook and @StockerArts on Twitter and Instagram.

LCCC Theatre program hosts “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail”

The Lorain County Community College Arts and Humanities division theatre program will present its fall performance “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail” at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, November 15-17, 2018 in the Cirigliano Studio Theatre at Stocker Arts Center.

The drama, written in 1969 by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, opens with Thoreau in jail for refusing to pay taxes to a government conducting a war of aggression in Mexico, at midpoint shows Ralph Waldo Emerson visiting him, and ends on the morning of his release. Scenes portray his return from Harvard where he idolized Emerson, his attempt to establish a transcendentalist school, his career as a handyman and tutor in Emerson’s household, and his romance and his friendship with an illiterate cellmate. The end is a grotesque dream in which the characters take up guises in a mortal assault on Mexico.

The play is directed by Sarah May, whose work as a director is well known around Northeast Ohio where she has been a guest artist at many area theatres and colleges.  Most recently she directed the timely comedy “Rasheeda Speaking” at Karamu Theatre, Terrance McNally’s “Mother’s and Sons” at Beck Center, the one-man drama “Thurgood” (Scene Magazine’s Best Actor Award for Greg White) at Ensemble Theatre, and “Life with Father” (Best Show of the Season) at Weathervane Playhouse in Akron.

The ticket price is $9 for adults and $8 for LCCC students with valid ID, children 18 and under, faculty, staff and seniors 65+.

Stocker Arts Center is located on the campus of Lorain County Community College located at 1005 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio. Parking on campus is free.
