Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention – Did you know that if your
child is exposed to lead based paint in your home, it can have an
impact on their health? If inhaled or ingested, lead can affect your
child’s behavioral, developmental or educational abilities that
continue into adulthood. Common symptoms of lead poisoning include
stomachache, headache, and irritability. The best way to tell if
your child has been exposed to lead
is to contact your child’s doctor or Lorain County Public Health and
have them tested.
Currently, funding is available for owner occupied and rental homes
in Lorain and Erie counties that were built before 1978 to address
lead hazards in the home. Families must financially qualify to have
their homes assessed for lead hazards and repairs. For more
information on the HUD Lead Hazard Control Program, please call the
Erie County Health Department 419-626-5623 ext. 483.
